Assignments Vocallis 2022

Provided again this year Vocallis in addition to composition assignments, assignments for a poem and logo to creative talents and veterans.

The Power of Music – Barbara Stok

None other than Barbara Stok designed the logo for this edition with the theme 'the power of music'. The Dutch comics artist lives and works in Groningen and was once a drummer in a punk rock band. In our eyes, she certainly shows this affinity for music in her funny (digital) pencil lines.

Drawing of a singing woman with four arms, two of which gesticulate expressively and two of which lift a grand piano above her head

Poems

This year Annemarie Estor and Har Sniekers. Har in the dialect and Annemarie even wrote her poem in Dutch and in the dialect.

These poems are the text for two new compositions, written this year by Maarten Ter Horst and Jesse Passenier.
What is special is that both works are performed by two different soloists, Bibi Ortjens and Vincent Kusters.
These compositions and poems can be heard in the concert in De Kopermolen in Vaals on Friday evening 4 Novemberr.

With mesick – Harrie Sniekers

Harrie Sniekers from Roermond wrote a poem in the dialect

Trómme on the counter with mets and vershèt
or six bitterballe broesendj in 't vet...
is this mesick?
And the thunderclap on a hot summer day
or the boenkeboenke den of the scan…
is this ouch meziek?
Meziek vertèltj verhaole full of energy and fantasy
heltj ós van weigh toot earl kómpenie.
Meziek plaosters on the deepest slice
and wilt thou ouch toew vinsters 'n otzich beje
Meziek geuftj with a nice piece of soft kvass
color to foals and flu close to the roof.
Kruuptj with häöre geis goose in that waeze
and can be healed alone through suffering.

When Ton Kropivsek read the poem “Met meziek” by Har Sniekers, he was inspired to write a new work. Ton writes in the score: written for International Festival Vocallis 2022. We are very grateful to him for that. The work can be heard on Saturday afternoon October 16 in Oud-Rekum and Sunday night October 30 in Wijnandsrade.

Annemarie Estor - When the music sings this / when the music sings this

Earth or water, fire or air, in any case I am not a god. .
Once I was earth and fire, sometimes I still am,
or sometimes I get the feeling that I am still grounding
and fire will become; when i go home:
when soon the sun goes down bright red, or just before,
then I think who am I, maybe I am my soft skin,
come on, that's what they say, that I'm so soft and then I think:
no you are not human, you are a bed,
a cosmic bed made of what exactly;
of tiny things that are strong through the distance that
they mutually agreed and that's it
why do I have to think about that fire, because then
goes all that distance away in warm wild stirrings!
For someone, someone who is out of full cherry-pillow heat
flame would set fire to his bed,
I would like to be such a starry nebula bed.

Aerdj or water, fire or loch, ich bon in any case gein god.
Oeets waor ich aerdj and fire, sometimes bön ich det still,
or sometimes kröptj mich the foal det ich still aerdj
and fire will wurre, as ich ens heives goan:
as soon as the sun's blazing roes ungoat, or flat deafer,
then dink ich weem bön ich, ich bön missjien my sweet skin,
allie, she said that, that ich zoe sought bon and then ich think:
nae de bos gein mens, de bos en bed,
a cosmic bed made of what persies;
van hieel little things that shterk zeen through the aafsjtand deej
she uncleaned zoeë höbbe aafspoake and so it is
why ich zoe mot dinke aan det fire because den
goat heel that aafj tooth away in wèrm and wildj movements!
For eemes, eemes dae oet full keesepittekösseknoemel
roetsj see bed in fire j mess wille sjtaeke,
mess me sun shataarmoety bed waal wille zeen
